Defected Records spectacularly delivers its most ambitious projects and with the challenge of filling two venues over two days just as the summer holidays commence, over 4500 clubbers showed up to the whole weekend; 2400 attended Ministry of Sound and still 700 were left outside, plus millions more witnessed the experience via a live stream on MySpace and iTunes alongside a LIVE TV broadcast on ITV2. Without question the Weekend is one of the label’s finest moments.

It all started with Candi Staton singing ‘You Got The love’ Live, this was the moment we knew that we had created a special moment, the whole venue hung on her every note and as she pointed the mic at the crowd all you could hear was the roar of the chorus: ‘Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air, I know I can count on you’ and ‘You’ve got the love I need to see me through’, it was simply spine tingling.

Big names did not stop there, check out the special secret appearance of our very own pop star: Shingai Shinowa from The Noisettes. She appeared onstage publically breaking the silence of her involvement with Dennis Ferrer’s ‘Hey Hey’. Her first live performance of the track was broadcast live to the nation, followed up by her own unmistakable hit ‘Don’t Upset The Rhythm’.

However It was Barbara Tucker, one of the most unique and best known House vocalists of all time that stole the show with a definitive and inspiring performance of ‘Beautiful People’ and ‘Most Precious Love’. Interviewed by Fearne Cotton and Dave Berry for ITV later, she sensationally enthused about the dance scene on national TV, introducing the virtues of house music and the label itself to a much wider audience.

Finally, the Shapeshifters showed off their polished current form by pushing the huge sound system to its limits with an unforgettable DJ performance and PA by Cookie singing their UK no.1 ‘Lola’s Theme’. They went on to turn the Roundhouse into a full on festival-style club experience belting out their version of rave anthem ‘Chime’ before unveiling their new single ‘Helter Skelter’ back up with a massive visuals show.

'What a phenomenal weekend...,' enthused Simon Dunmore, the usually reserved Defected label head, '...to be the first ‘label’ showcase at the iTunes festival is another landmark moment for Defected and to pull off two full blown *live* events back-to-back is a credit to the label and all the artists involved. There is f*ck all wrong with clubland when you put together a great line up and play great music. The Defected size 10 has given clubland a much needed kick up the arse!'
