2011 is developing as the year that people reaffirmed
their love of dancing in the open air.
You glance out over the happily swaying crowd to the glistening sea beyond, mojito in one hand while the other taps a gentle 4/4 rhythm against your thigh. A smile slowly spreads across your face, as the realisation dawns; the DJs just dropped the tune, that tune. The one that makes everything feel warm, good, right.
You turn and look for your friends dancing nearby, knowing that the same exact feeling is currently spreading from their bare toes to the very top of their heads. Almost visibly glowing now, the crowd whoop and cheer as the DJ drops the beat. This is everything you hoped it would be, the greatest feeling on earth. This is Beach Clubbing and it is pure bliss.
Here at Defected, we’ve always been heavily involved in the al-freso clubbing experience – whether that’s the classic WMC Miami Pool Parties or festivals in exotic locations like Sunburn in Goa, ZoukOut in Singapore and Junction Festival in Bali – but this year things have really taken off.
It is our new weekly residency at Ushuaia in Ibiza that has set the ball rolling, a multi million Euro beach clubbing hotel that has reshaped the very fabric of Ibiza, invigorating the island and reminding us of the pure pleasure of dancing under the stars and in the sand. It isn’t just this event that has excited us; it was our recent adventures at Sasha Beach in Portugal, Bloomingdale in the Netherlands and countless festivals in between. Clubbing outdoors has soared in popularity this year and we are proud to be a big part of making that happen around the world.
It was an obvious ‘Eureka’ moment when we all realised that we should try and bottle the feeling and encapsulate the sound and vibe of the beach party. However putting together a beach clubbing soundtrack was no easy task, after all how can you sum up that summer vibe in two CDs? After some careful thought and endless searching we have come up with what we believe to be the ultimate in Beach clubbing soundtracks. We have created two mixes that represent the blissful day vibe moving onto a pacier nocturnal groove.
The album features sun-kissed tracks from the likes of Hot Natured, Storm Queen, Maya Jane Coles, Ray Foxx, Oliver $, Benoit & Sergio, Steffi, Rogerseventytwo, Franky Rizardo, Tensnake, KOT, Lovebirds and Guy Robin. All contemporary upfront tunes and the very best is house music. It all points to a decidedly different outdoor clubbing experience and one that we are stamping our personality on.
