Sébastien Léger - Planets Sébastien Léger - Planets.
One of the most outstanding producers and DJs of the current electronic scene is about to drop his hotly anticipated album… Sébastien Léger presents ‘Planets’ which is set for release this winter on his own label - Mistakes Music. Featuring 11 tracks written by Sébastien to showcase what his label is all about; ‘Planet’s has quickly taken on other-worldly status and every track has been named after a Planet in our solar system.

Mistakes Music acts as an outlet for Sébastien’s own music. The label itself is named after Sébastien's "ad lib" approach to producing records, whereby the final mix down and arrangement on each track has in fact been achieved by a happy accident or "mistake" as he modestly puts it. Launching earlier this year with ‘Pluto’ & ‘Saturn’ and following in quick succession with ‘Mercury’ & ‘Mars’, it was easy to see from the amazing reactions and excellent sales that this label had been eagerly awaited by music fans across the world. With its wide ranging and genre defying grooves, crossing between house, electro, techno and progressive, it is fast becoming something of a respected imprint.

But lets be clear about one thing – “This is not an artist album” says Sébastien. “This is a club orientated album. It is fun, groovy, melodic, spacey, punchy, emotional, crazy and lovely (like me)”. He offers with a smirk.

First on the album is ‘Pluto’… a solid introduction, very funky, glitchy and unashamedly wonky. This track encompasses all that the album is about, elements of electro, house, techno, ominous breaks and funky broken synths reign supreme. It’s as if Sébastien is layering all of his trademark sounds and fusing them into one monster of a track with slight mechanical sprinkles. This has been a firm favourite with the likes of Satoshi Tomiie and Sasha.

We then move on to ‘Uranus’ - a colossal peak time track. Simply, it just makes you want to dance. The subtle nuances are sheer brilliance and Sébastien keeps his French-influenced groove throughout. The bass gets under your skin while the synths and bleeps wreak havoc with your system.

In comes ‘Mercury’ and the mood changes. This is the more mature side of Sébastien… much moodier, deeper and ultimately a very beautiful track. An evocative number, it’s a close your eyes and feel the music song – pure elegance. This is much more progressive than its planetary brothers and sisters and is a firm favourite of DJs such as Nic Fanciulli and Eric Prydz.

Then you find yourself bouncing along to ‘Mars’, which is one for anyone who has a soft spot for worbly noises. Up next is ‘Earth’ - a pure club track that is reminiscent of Space with unyielding synths that keep on rolling…You can instantly tell why Sébastien named this track ‘Earth’ – the music feels like it comes to life. Majestic swooshes float in and out with the noises crashing around you.

Sébastien then gets his cool groove back with ‘Moon’… he almost teases you with his relentless techy groove, noodly synths and buzzing noises; whilst ‘Venus’ retains that fresh French sound with a bubbly bassline and some scratchy synths.

‘Jupiter’ is definitely the dirtiest track on the album. It absolutely rocks! Stabbing synths vs a springy bassline with layer upon layer of noisy grimy bleeps, it packs a real punch. Then here comes the ‘Sun’ which is a pure gem. You feel like you are experiencing sun rise to sun set. It’s dreamy in its approach.

‘Neptune’ is quite a minimal little number with an almost regimental beat going. You feel like marching along with its regimented techy beat. Very gradual and is testament to a true techno track with a rolling bassline that is a relentless, pounding beat. A little taster that has an almighty kick to it, which then leads you on to ‘Saturn’…

‘Saturn’ is a very solid, clubby track that is influenced by Séb’s time in Hong Kong. This is pure peak time madness which has featured in the record boxes of Sébastien Ingrosso, Mike Monday and Axwell.

A breath of fresh air perhaps in this era when genres no longer apply to DJ sets, there are many facets to Sébastien Léger which are apparent in this album, and the one thing that is evident is his unquestionable passion for house music, in all its glorious forms. Billed as the new Jacques Lu Cont (except that he is a real Frenchman) you can expect to hear Seb’s tracks everywhere… from Pete Tong to Mark Knight to Eddie Halliwell to D Ramirez. As a remixer Sébastien is equally prolific with remixes for Justin Timberlake, Groove Armada and Ali Love.

In 1998 Sébastien published his first EPs under the alias Deaf'n'Dumb Crew. In the years that followed Sébastien released more than 50 records on many international labels, building his reputation as a key player within the new blood of talented producers. And now he introduces an album of all new, original material on his very own label. Skilfully crafted together this is one not to be missed, can we suggest you put it on and turn it up…
