There is no disputing it, Defected Records and Strictly Rhythm are the world’s leading house labels. Never bandwagon jumping, they have resolved to present only the best contemporary house music to the world’s club scene. Both labels combine this year to bring all the new talent to one essential party in South Beach. The result: Strictly Defected at Cameo.
Every year the Miami Winter Music Conference provides the opportunity for the labels to set up their stalls for the coming year and present the very best of what they have to offer. 2010 brings us a radical change from previous years and with new artists signed, new music and a new venue confirmed, there is a lot to talk about.
This year our event moves to Cameo This premier Miami club space with its glamorous setting and huge sound system will be an important focal point during the conference. This is the place where the tracks of the year will be broken, all upfront, all fresh, all getting their first dance floor road test.
As ever the truly international line-up does not disappoint, with new roster additions that include Riva Starr, the Southern Italian House producer famed for his quirky and fun house productions. There will also be special appearances from Spain’s David Penn, Holland’s Chocolate Puma and Japan’s Studio Apartment. Look out too for Quentin Harris, one of Strictly Rhythm’s cornerstone artists who will be playing exclusive new cuts from his forthcoming artist album ‘Sac-ri-fice’.
It’s not just DJ’s, we have live performances by the legendary percussionist Shovell and Rae, the sexy voice behind sandy Rivera’s ‘Can’t Stop’ and ATFC ‘Give Me Luv’.
With a wealth of other Strictly and Defected world talent billed, this is the definitive House Music club night of the conference for all of those lucky enough to be in Florida this year.

Strictly Rhythm.

Soon after opening its doors Strictly Rhythm quickly gained a following among club DJs thanks to a series of high quality underground tracks by the likes of Roger Sanchez, Todd Terry and Kenny Dope. In 1994 Strictly notched up its first crossover hit with Real 2 Real’s ‘I Like To Move It’, a feat it was to repeat throughout the rest of the decade with Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’, Ultra Naté’s ‘Free’ and Wamdue Project’s ‘King of My Castle’. In between the hits the label provided a steady output of club tracks by a huge array of respected artists from Barbara Tucker and Masters At Work to Erick Morillo, Josh Wink, Armand Van Helden, Danny Tenaglia, David Morales and DJ Pierre. Almost every house producer of repute who was active in the 1990s is represented in the catalogue.

Defected Records.

If you’ve ever been to a club, bar or house party where the DJ was playing House music, the likelihood is that at least one of the records you heard was signed to Defected. For the last 10 years they’ve been releasing tunes that have defined the scene and are now unquestionably the global authority within the genre.
Every year, more than half a million people attend Defected In the House events around the globe. Operating in more than 40 countries, Defected are the most internationally recognisable dance brand in the world with a reputation built on the love of music. With millions of records sold globally, the label has worked with some of the biggest names in the business, and is responsible for introducing talents such as Bob Sinclar, Junior Jack, ATFC, Sandy Rivera and Copyright to an ever-hungry audience.
Where other labels have struggled to keep up with a volatile market, Defected have embraced the prevalence of the digital age. They have also initiated some of the most reliable brands in the compilations market, including the ‘In the House’ compilation series. In more recent years, Defected has formed strong affiliations and solid partnerships with some of the most established labels in the game including seminal imprints Strictly Rhythm, Subliminal, Junior Boys Own, Slip & Slide .
From its first release to its last, Defected’s sound has been deeply rooted in classic soul and disco, and while their sound has no doubt developed over the last decade with techier signings, this firm belief in the essential musicality of house has never faded. .
