The term eclectic seems to be banded around almost at will these days. Genres are carelessly attached to music as though throwing musical mud at a wall! However when it comes to describing super –hot breakthrough four-piece Skank Sinatra and 20 year dance music pioneer Tom Middleton, the term ‘eclectic’ could hardly be more appropriate.

The single ‘How Deep’ arrives dripping with dramatic urgency and soul. A powerful mix of huge electronic drums, wobbling bass and ambient textures are all carried forward by Spiced Arabs poised and perfectly executed vocal delivery. This is without question one of the tracks that will prove to be a real ‘moment’ in the bands live set.

Tom Middleton slips into full-on house mode for the ‘Vox’ mix, choosing to throw the track directly at the middle of the dancefloor like only he can. The stretched out vocals are coupled with a monster electro bassline, snappy synth lines and then sprinkled with trademark Tom Middleton backing tones. The ‘Dub’ shifts the emphasis away from the vocal and on to an outrageously large, dub-step style bass line with added squeaks and bleeps thrown in for good measure. The result is equally as dance-able although perhaps more suited to those whose prefer their grooves more stripped back and direct.

Continuing with the dance floor assault, London breaks act Future Funk Squad weigh in with a heavy-hitting Breaks remix that wobbles and shakes in all the necessary places. Gargantuan bass is again the focus with fat, scattered beats and choice vocal snippets dancing gleefully alongside it.

Look out for further remixes of ‘How Deep’ from key Freerange Records producer Shur-I-Kan, Hospital Records star Nu: Tone and experimental jazz whizz Something Wonderful. This is an exciting time for Skank Sinatra so make sure you don’t sleep on one of the most enigmatic and genre-busting acts to emerge in recent years..
