Snocap announced the deal with independent label Merlin, who represent hundreds of unsigned bands and artists, to sell their music through the Myspace retail arm Mystore over the weekend.

Downloads will be available in MP3 format, allowing consumers to use the files on any digital music player.

With the new chart rules announced in January, which allows all download sales to be counted in the official charts, indie bands and artists will be exposed to the same opportunity to enjoy big chart success as their manufactured counterparts managed by the major labels.

Myspace has already changed the face of the music industry, with bands such as the Arctic Monkeys and Lily Allen amongst a growing list of artists who were discovered and enjoyed initial support through their presence on the site. .
