Defected: release of the week on sub-labels

In Kürze: Just to mention the headlines: Tom Middleton – ‘Cicadas’ on Lo-Rise Records, Simbad Feat. Brian Temba – ‘Come Join In’ on Hi-Rise Records, Kim Fai – ‘Era / Supernova’ on Size Records.

Vollständig: Lo-Rise and Hi-Rise:

These projects are headed by our boy Aaron Ross, with with Lo Rise focusing on more underground, trackier sounds and Hi Rise on the more soulful tip – there'll be a lot of exciting projects upcoming here so let meknow if you decide to cover any of these.

Tom Middleton – ‘Cicadas’ (Maya Jane Coles / Marlon D Remixes) (Lo Rise)

For the inaugural release on the newly formed Lo:Rise imprint, Jedi Knight Tom Middleton brings us a tribal, percussive workout that centres around the infectiously groovy clicks and whistles of its onomatopoeic title. The original should be enough to make any DJ’s mouth water, and with an eerily deep and stylishly bouncy remixes coming in from Marlon D and girl of the moment Maya Jane Coles, the package in its entirety is almost frighteningly good.

Simbad Feat. Brian Temba – ‘Come Join In’ (Bertrand Dupart Remix) (Hi Rise)

DJ and Producer Simbad has a well-respected reputation for producing effervescent vocal house, and this latest addition to his discography, on the brand new Hi:Rise label, will further cement that reputation. For ‘Come Join In’ Simbad employs the vocal talents of South African singer Brian Temba, one time performer in the West End stage version of the Lion King, complimented beautifully by the restrained keys and energetic percussion. Remixes are provided by Bertrand Dupart who releases the cut off on the synthy keys and goes straight for the dancefloor jugular.

First up hitting you with the latest from Size – continuing on their strong run of releases we have Kim Fai:

Kim Fai – ‘Era / Supernova’ (Size)

You don’t get to tour with Swedish House Mafia and Deadmau5 unless you’ve got some serious talent behind the decks, just as you don’t get to remix the likes of The Prodigy and Lady Gaga unless you know your way around a studio. Kim Fai has proved time and time again he isn’t lacking in either of these areas, and his latest double-A side releases continues to assert his global dominance. With ‘Era’ and ‘Supernova’ he delivers two epic tracks of screaming synths and heavy bass that are as good as you’ll hear this year…and you’ll be hearing them a lot.

Next up we see the return of Phazing - for their first release of 2011 we have the latest from Jeremy Olander, including remix from label boss Dirty South:

Jeremy Olander – ‘Airsteala’ (Phazing)

With a bassline that will knock the unsteady clubber clean of their feet and a slow build that seems to continue for the tracks entirety, Jeremy Olander has set the bar high with his first Phazing release. Massive, soaring synths ensure there are few downward pointing hands in the building, while on the flip label boss Dirty South steps up to deliver a typically polished remix.

DJ Meme is the man behind one half of the Defected in the House Brazil ’11 compilation…here’s his remix of Frankie Knuckles & the Shapeshifters forthcoming on Nocturnal Groove:

Frankie Knuckles & The Shapeshifters – ‘The Ones You Love’ (DJ Meme Remix) (Nocturnal Groove Digital)

Taking a track already brimming with quality, DJ Meme injects even more soul than before into this modern-day vocal house anthem. Soaring, beautiful strings and a classic house piano riff anyone? Yep, we thought you’d like that..
