Nouveau Yorican: ‘Chiuso’

It’s their brand new track that is causing all the fuss, like nothing that you have heard before ‘Chiuso’ is thrust to our attention with its Latin inspired shuffle tech house sound. This is a track that stands out by literally by New York blocks!
You may never have come across these guys before, even though they have already previously released ‘Jackit’ on Mixmash Records and ‘Boriqua’ on Sound Pelligrino, both setting them up nicely for this new release. So you will be surprised to know that this is a project formed by underground DJ and native New York resident Gina Turner and Dutch uber DJ Laidback Luke, both presenting the duo’s modern interpretation of Latin-and 90’s inspired New York house.
‘Chiuso’ is the super hooky and infectious Latin guitar melody blended with driving New York style beats which is attracting our full attention. It mixes the vibes of the past Dutch and New York underground scenes with current dancefloor sensibilities, this latest track finds that elusive spark of magic that elevates a merely good track to the upper echelons of class. ‘Chiuso’ embeds its simple, yet devastatingly effective hook deep into your consciousness while it’s techy, driving beats and relentless groove urge you to the dancefloor with irresistible force. Destined for legendary club status, this should only be avoided if you have a severe allergy to true house music anthems.
It’s good to note that there is a historical connection between Amsterdam and New York too, once upon a time New York used to be New Amsterdam. For all you music and history nerds out there, it was a 17th-century Dutch Colonial settlement that served as the capital of New Netherland. It later became New York City, so it’s no surprise that this has influenced this new duo’s production with its strong historical and musical ties.
“Nouveau Yorican refers to the Latinofication of New York meets Amsterdam. Gina being New York and me being Amsterdam” says Laidback Luke, ‘...together we bring something new and classy’.
Taking great production influences from the rich history of house music in New York from the likes of Strictly Rhythm, Masters At Work, Todd Terry and Armand van Helden, ‘Chiuso’ oozes an old skool flavor greatly apparent in its clever production.
‘I just wanted to give the genre of Bachata a new twist, as it's one of my favourite Latin genres as the guitar has so much passion without even saying anything it says so much!’ says Gina Turner.
“The guitar is obviously very catchy in here and so is Gina's voice! In Nouveau Yorican I can put back my techno roots again”. Laidback Luke.
‘Chiuso’ is coming out on Defected, a label known for Quality house and club anthems, this is a perfect home for this track maximising its huge potential , look out for it in the Beatport top 10 and DJ’s charts everywhere..
