Move's on: Data Recordings (UK).
Biographie: American DJ / producer Claude Young has been an integral part of electronic music in Detroit since his beginnings in 1991. He started his DJ career at Detroit radio station WHYT mixing live shows on Friday and Saturday nights playing an eclectic blend of house, techno, soul, hip hop and disco. Playing at local parties soon followed, where Claude defined his own unique style of DJing, taking influences from hip hop DJs and mixed it up with techno tracks. His sets soon had everyone in awe as his Œacrobatic deck skills and scratching¹ were leaving his peers behind in a trail of dust. His talent behind the decks have built Claude into one of the most in demand techno DJs in world today.
He launched his studio career editing productions for artist such as Kevin Saunderson and 430 West Records artist Jay ³Vice² Denham. After learning from his friend and mentor Anthony ŒShake¹ Shakir, Claude started producing tracks for himself, and was soon in demand as a producer / remixer. After setting up 7th City records with friend Daniel ³DBX² Bell, and later Frictional records with Anthony Shakir, increasing DJ and remix commitments prompted Claude¹s move to London England in early 1997. Few of his peers have been able to appeal to the tastes of both major and independent labels in the manner that he has, having recorded for Sony, Virgin, R&S, Tresor, DJax, Mo¹wax, Soma, Studio K7 and Harthouse records to name just a few. He is also in great demand as a remixer and has built up a very impressive C.V, previously the works of Gary Numan, Carl Craig, 4Hero, Sven Vath and Inner City have all been interpreted by him to great effect.
In 1999, Sony playstation commissioned Claude to produce music for the game ŒGhost in the shell¹ alongside Takkyu Ishino, Joey Beltram and the Advent. In the same year, he launched his own label, Deta Recordings in the UK releasing his own take on Techno. With several releases already with label artist Querida, Deta looks set to go from strength to strength with future releases planned.
At the start of 2001, Claude moved Deta Recordings to Glasgow, Scotland to launch his own club night in May. It¹s his first ever UK residency, and the night is called ŒTrue People¹, which happens once a month at Ad Lib. The club has already had 3 hugely successful parties at Planet Peach, The Renfrew ferry & Ad Lib. The music policy is open, with Claude DJing house, electro, techno, hip hop and soul. The opening night saw people coming from afar as Japan and London to witness Claude at the decks for 4 hours. ŒTrue People¹ is a night for people who believe in the music, and not the scene that revolves around it & is the talk of the town.
Currently enjoying worldwide recognition as one of the finest techno DJs on the scene. Claude regularly spins in various locations around the world to packed clubs in his hectic DJ schedule, showing a consistency to believe in the music he plays in this ever-changing fickle business, which is a rare feat in today¹s musical climate.
